In this section you will find all the answers to the most frequently asked questions on how to use Babylon Cloud backup and sync&share products.
BACKUP
The Sync&Share function consists of a folder that allows you to synchronize and share files and folders in the cloud in real time on every device linked to your user. You can also create shares with other users.
The Backup function allows you to create a copy of the contents of entire devices, network disks or removable drives. Files and folders can be recovered at any time, to any date in the past, through the “restore” function.
In case of file damage due to ransomware or other virus, you can go back in time and restore your projects without any time limit. You can consult the Time Machine on the user portal and check the status of files and folders at any date in the past and download them. Or, massively restore all the data on your device (computer, tablet or smartphone) thanks to the Restore function on the client. It will therefore be possible to recover entire folders or the entire contents of any of your backed up or synchronized devices, on which the platform is installed (PC, server, tablet, smartphone or iPhone).
For Android systems: you can select the folders to upload to the cloud in the Backup section. Furthermore, through the Configurations section you can perform a manual backup or set the backup time.
For iOS systems: by accessing the app, the Camera folder will appear, allowing you to back up your photos and videos.
Windows and MacOS systems: you will choose when to run your backups. With the Continuous Backup the files will be uploaded to the cloud at each change, with the Scheduled Backup you can choose the day and time for the backup, with the Backup Now, the backup is performed at that specific moment. The settings are automatically applied to all folders in the Backup Folders list. To customize them see the question “How can I customize my backups”.
Android systems: you have the option to choose between a Scheduled Backup, setting the day and time for the backup to be performed, or a Backup Now, to upload the files at that specific moment.
iOS system: you can back up the folders every time you access the app, by clicking on Start Backup and monitoring the progress from the Status button
You can optimize the upload of your files using the Bandwidth Management button on your PC client. Bandwidth management allows you to select the number of files that are simultaneously sent to the upload server. By default, the system sets the simultaneity to 5, leaving you however with the possibility of increasing or decreasing this value according to your needs.
You can consult the files and folders you have backed up by accessing the Web Portal, selecting the name of your backup device from the drop-down menu at the top left.
To customize the backups by differentiating them by single folder, all you have to do is open the Client and click on the icon on the left of the folder you want to customize. This will open a dialog where you can set the custom backup frequency for that specific folder. You can choose between: Easy Backup, Continuous Backup or a Scheduling by hour, day and month of the year.
With the Backup Repository you keep the folders backed up in the cloud even after deleting them from your PC. Activate the feature from the client’s Options menu and make a backup. You can now save space on your computer or mobile device and delete the backed up folders and files, which will be kept safe in the cloud.
sync&share
The Sync&Share feature consists of a folder that allows you to synchronize and share files and folders in the cloud in real time on every device linked to your user. You can also create shares with other users.
The Backup feature allows you to create a copy of the contents of entire devices, network drives or removable drives. Files and folders can be recovered at any time, to any date in the past, through the “restore” function.
With your account, you can synchronize all the devices you want, choosing between PCs, laptops, smartphones and tablets, with no limit on the number of individual users.
On Windows, Mac and Android systems, a sync folder will be created as soon as you install the application.
Through the Sync, it is possible to synchronize any type of file or folder, just move or copy the desired content within the synchronization folder on your desktop or upload the files within the File section in the app. The synchronized files are visible from all devices connected to your account and from the Sync Folder section of the Web Portal.
It is possible to synchronize an infinite number of devices for a single user, choosing between smartphones, tablets and PCs.
You can share files and folders via dynamic links or by creating a shared folder with other platform users.
Dynamic links will allow you to send read-only documents and folders via a special URL generated by your web portal; the recipient will thus be able to view and download the contents present in the link, always accessing their most recent version.
With the shared folder you can instead share your documents with active users in your workgroup and you can also set a different usage privilege for each of them (read only, read/write, read/write/delete), thus choosing the ways of working that best suit your needs.
You can share read-only files and folders, by creating links, even with people who don’t have an active user. It is possible to generate a transfer link directly from the user portal, in this way your recipient will always have access to the updated version of the shared documents and will be able to download and view your files by simply clicking on the sent link.
The Hologram feature allows you to transform the files in your sync folder by reducing their space to 1KB. The file will be displayed with a Hologram icon, but it will always be possible to download the original version with a simple click.
